Biog:
Donal Hodgson is a Sound Engineer, Mixer and Pro Tools Expert. He has many years experience recording a wide range of music from solo acoustic to rock, orchestral and electronica. His talent has also enabled him to work on a number of Hollywood film productions and UK TV shows as the music editor and also head up the sound department on several music DVD productions.
Having got a taste for the industry when he started as a tape operator at Jacobs Studios in 1987, Donal then moved on to Eden Studios in West London where he progressed swiftly to become chief engineer and the face of the studio working with artists such as Primal Scream and The La’s. In 1993 Donal chose to go freelance and bought his first Pro Tools system and has since developed working relationships with several manufacturers as a beta tester and endorsee.
Donal has produced and recorded all over the world. More often than not this has involved shipping an entire studio of equipment to locations both in the UK and abroad. In such instances, planning and budget management are vital. These are skills Donal has developed from many years of practical experience.
In May 2005 Donal began managing Sting’s studio and tape library. In 2006 he went on tour with Sting as his sound supervisor / production manager, mixing and overseeing the recording of live shows for radio and television broadcast. Donal was heavily involved with the Police Reunion World Tour. Not only was he responsible for The Police broadcast sound, but he also built, installed and managed the archival recording system for The Police World Tour. Donal has now recorded six albums with Sting. In that time they have won a Grammy and an Emmy together. Donal also won an Emmy for his mix work on Sting’s Symphonicities show, which he recorded at Red Rocks for A&E’s private Sessions TV show.
